Here’s our recommendation for Day 21:
There’s not a lot we can say that hasn’t already been covered by Jake here in his series of articles about the Universal Movie Monsters.
Often imitated and parodied, the Frankenstein monster is one of the most recognizable horror icons the world over. Pre-dating Freddie Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers by around 50 years, this movie monster will always be a classic.
A 1994 remake, starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert DeNiro, received good reviews, both by viewers and critics alike. It did not, however, stand up to the original. DeNiro played The Monster in a much more human way than Karloff back in 1931.
There is a 2004 version available for streaming on Netflix right now (starring Parker Posey and Vincent Perez), but don’t be fooled – this is not “the good Frankenstein”. Watch at your own risk!
