Here’s our recommendation for Day 18:
There aren’t many movies in this countdown for which the remakes are an acceptable alternative, but if we had to choose one it would be ‘Dawn of the Dead’. While the original is still our preference, we’ll allow you to get by with the second version. If you have to. Like, if you have no other choice. Like, if there’s a zombie apocalypse and you’re not able to make it to the mailbox to pick up your copy of the original that Netflix sent you since neither version is available for streaming. But that’s the only way.
Anyway.
This movie is the second in the George Romero ‘trilogy of the dead’, which culminated with ‘Day of the Dead’ in 1985. Romero was visiting the Monroeville Mall when a friend quipped that people would be able to survive in the mall if there were some kind of disaster. Romero took this as a challenge, and ‘Dawn of the Dead’ was the result.
