Well here we are, showdown weekend. The AFC and NFC Championship games happen in one day, and we will see who we will end up betting on in Super Bowl XLVII, right after hearing Alicia Keys sing the National Anthem.
Does there have to be a Saturday this week? Everyone wants to see these two games already! Looking at Tom Brady vs Ray Lewis, it will be very interesting to see how this matchup plays out. Brady is a longtime nemesis of Lewis, and Lewis has always been a thorn in Brady’s side. Come to think of it, I can’t think of any quarterback who doesn’t mind playing Ray Lewis. This could very well be his last game, and it could be the last game for Ed Reed as a Raven. He becomes a free agent after this season, so while he will probably resign, we have had some sources saying he is being wanted pretty bad by a few other teams, including New England. To find out, though, we’re going to have to watch and wait.
Now, let’s take a look at the San Francisco / Atlanta game. Not counting Michael Crabtree probably being a bit distracted, both by his legal issues right now and by Coach Harbaugh wanting Randy Moss to come back next season, will the rest of the team be looking past Atlanta? They have waived Billy Cundiff, so they’re confident at the kicker position. Kaepernick is barely above Ryan in the QB ratings, but the 49ers are averaging 15 more points, 162 more yards and allowed fewer points per game. Matt Ryan, however, can blow a game wide open in about 3 plays, and I am not sure the 49ers defense will be able to completely keep them out of it. We will see what happens, and we will meet back here next Saturday for our last column before the Super Bowl.
See you all next week!
